Lessons learned from the development and testing of the NASA 173Mv1 led to development of the NASA-173Mv2 in 2003. This second-generation PEPL Hall thruster demonstrated that a properly designed magnetic lens allows the thruster efficiency to monotonically increase with the discharge voltage.
