1-kW Arcjet

1-kW arcjet operating inside PEPL’s LVTF.

Developed

Tested at PEPL
1992

Developer
NASA LeRC (now GRC)

The first electric propulsion device tested at PEPL was a 1 kW class arcjet from NASA Lewis Research Center (now Glenn Research Center). The arcjet operated on both hydrogen and simulated hydrazine decomposition products. The specific impulse peaked at ~800 s (hydrogen) at an efficiency of 30%.
