The intermediate stage of the P5-2 was removed and the front face plasma coated to create the 173Mv1 to plasma-investigate high-efficiency, high-specific-impulse operation. The 173Mv1 (P5-2) is a second-generation Hall thrusters designed by PEPL and affiliates.
